Onna is one of the towns that mostly suffered the earthquake that hit the Abruzzi region in 2009.
Thus, working there makes an impression because building the underpass, one is not only contributing to the improvement of rail infrastructures, but also giving the town a tangible signal that it can start living again.
The project was part of a major one concerning light rail that connected San Demetrio to Sassa. Four new stops were planned: San Gregorio, Onna, Bazzano, the Aquilone area and the Sassa Home Projects.
The overall project foresaw the removal of 14 railway crossings on the railway route from San Demetrio to Sassa and the simultaneous creation of four extra stops.
