Pinacoteca di Brera

Milano

The Brera Art Gallery was opened to the public in 1809 and is located in the homonymous palace, where other cultural institutions, such as the Braidense Library, the Astronomical Observatory, the Botanical Garden, the Lombardo Academy of Sciences and Letters, and the Academy of Fine Arts are established. The Art Gallery is one of the most prestigious galleries in the Lombardy city. The Palace, built on a convent of the fourteenth century, has hosted a Jesuit School for many centuries.

The project for the roofing maintenance, an indispensable work for the protection of the showrooms and for a comfortable temperature in the spaces, was developed with a view to combine construction traditions with technological innovation.

Several works concerning restoration, revision and refurbishment of the roofs were carried out: the existing walkways and passages were replaced and restored; the existing curved roof tiles and copper pipes were inspected; the skylights on the large roofs were replaced with Schuco iron parts and glass, entirely made on site.

Particular attention was paid to the redevelopment of the exterior wall of the building on the side of the Strettone, where new plaster, pad cleaning and repainting played an important role in respecting the original chrome elements.
